Rather than it being a surprise that Startech has produced a cosmetically highly-spec version of the iconic Land Rover Defender, the surprise is that more tuning forms don’t do it. After all, the Defender is as iconic a 4×4 as you can get, enough to imbue it with coolness and desirability by right.
True, as a fast cruiser the Defender would struggle to hack it, but as an Urban Cruiser – where posing is more important than performance – it would do a fine job. It could also show the G-Wagon a thing or two in the desirability stakes.
So what has Startech – a tuning firm affiliated with Brabus – done to the Land Rover Defender to make it more desirable? Or at least more desirable to the ‘Urban Cool’, if not necessarily the local farmer?
To start with they’ve painted the Defender 90 Yachting Edition in a very stand-out Bright white, with a set of 16″ alloys on bigger tyres. There’s a set of running boards with integrated entrance lights and body-coloured headlight
covers.
But it’s the interior that gets worked-over the most, and worked over to a yachting theme – surprise, surprise. Belive it or not you get a wood deck (the floor) and acres of nautical-blue leather with white stitching on the doors, the dash, the centre console and the Recaro chairs. The seat backs are painted white to match the exterior and the headliner comes in blue Alcantara.
